Injections

For some people functional improvements, recovery and pain relief is better achieved with injections. These can be more effective than an oral medication because they deliver medication directly to the anatomic location of concern.
Depending on the type of injection in Portland, OR, some forms of relief may be long lasting and some may be only temporary. These are some of the procedures we can do to help you.

Types of Injections Offered

Trigger Point Injection

Trigger points are tender areas of muscle that can feel like knots and can be very sensitive to pressure or touch. They also commonly refer pain to other parts of the body. As example, a neck trigger point may cause headaches. TPI's work by temporarily relaxing the muscle cord, by altering the electrical conductivity which can improve blood flow, remove waste, and replenish ATP. We utilize a special more natural combination to improve results.
"Dry Needling" is a modified biomedical acupuncture technique that utilizes a needle only to induce the effect while still triggering the healing process.

Steroid Injections

A standard procedure typically involves a steroid medication mixed with an anesthetic injected to deliver a powerful anti-inflammatory solution directly to the area. This procedure can be applied to a variety of issues. Common applications include:

  • Ligament/Tendon Injections:
  • Basic Nerve Blocks:
  • Joint/Bursa Injections:

Regenerative Therapies

More advanced options utilizing modified techniques and specialized substances to promote healing, reduce inflammation or pain, improve function, and ideally have a longer-lasting impact.

What is Regenerative Medicine?

Regenerative medicine is a general broad category that includes treatments such as stem cell therapy, platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy, prolotherapy, certain cartilage regeneration procedures, and cellular therapies. It can be useful when an injury is unlikely to heal with traditional non-surgical treatments, such as rest and physical therapy, or pain and function have not improved following rehabilitation or surgery. By combining these approaches, we can boost your natural healing process and help restore normal function.

How Does Regenerative Medicine Work?

The goal of regenerative medicine offered at our Medical Clinic in Portland, OR, is to replace or reboot tissues or organs damaged because of disease, injury, age, or other issues instead of treating symptoms with medication and procedures. Combinations of these approaches, called regenerative injection therapy (RIT), can amplify our natural healing process with the goal of:

  • Inhibiting inflammation and slowing down the progression of degeneration
  • Inducing repair to stimulate the formation of new cartilage or tissue
  • Reduce pain by altering a patient's pain receptors and pain sensation processing
  • Restore homeostasis

Regenerative Injection Therapy (RIT) Basics

Some of the options available include the following:

Prolotherapy (proliferate + therapy)

Prolo is a blanket term used to describe what happens when we inject irritating substances such as dextrose into the tissue. It tones and tightens up weakened tissues to help with range of motion and pain relief and can be highly effective in osteoarthritis relief.

Peptide Therapy

Peptides are chains of amino acids that act as cell signaling molecules. Regenerative therapies are paired well with specific peptides that act to induce a variety of physiologic activities such as cell turnover, hormone modulation, muscle growth, and more.

Repair/Healing Peptides

BPC 157 was discovered in 1993, and there is now considerable clinical data on the regenerative properties of BPC-157 in animals. Human studies are currently underway. Uses for BPC-157 include reducing inflammation, increasing the production of type 1 collagen, improving the lower esophageal sphincter, healing fistulas, and helping with repairing many parts of the body. Published studies of BPC-157 will be reviewed, as well as dosing. This peptide pairs well with multiple others, particularly Thymosin B4.

Peptides for Pain

There are many potentially useful peptides for pain management depending on the primary issue and degree of secondary contributions. In pain management, it is often useful to stack and rotate various peptides to address multiple issues simultaneously.

Useful peptides for pain include Thymosins, ARA290, BPC157, pentosan polysulfate, and a unique peptide derived from venom, melittin.
Injections don't have to be scary or painful.

Safety & Ethics

At Upgrade PDX, we only source from labs that maintain quality and regulatory assurance in alignment with FDA (Federal Drug Administration) regulations. Our lab is AATB (American Association of Tissue Banking) accredited, cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) certified, and follows GTP (Good Tissue Practices) and WHO (World Health Organization) protocols and procedures to meet applicable requirements.

We source only from bio-ethically donated birth tissue from healthy consenting mothers in the United States who have passed a comprehensive medical background check and blood screenings and have full-term, live, C-section births. In addition, we only work with tissue procurement organizations within the United States that use collection techniques that follow the AATB guidelines, prioritizing the health and safety of the mother and baby above procurement.

At Upgrade PDX, we have researched and identified what we feel are the best combinations available for regenerative therapies. We utilize pharmaceutical grade, screened products from FDA certified labs and have created advanced protocol cocktails to maximize benefit.

Are regenerative injection therapies safe?

Yes, regenerative injection therapies (RIT) are safe when performed by trained professionals. At Upgrade PDX, we follow stringent safety protocols and source our materials from accredited labs that adhere to FDA regulations and ethical guidelines. We use bio-ethically donated tissue and ensure all products are screened and of the highest quality. However, as with any medical treatment, it's important to consult with your healthcare provider to ensure the therapy is appropriate for your specific condition.

How long will it take to see results from injection treatments?

The timeline for seeing results can vary depending on the type of injection and individual factors. Some treatments, such as steroid injections, may provide relief quickly, while regenerative therapies like Prolotherapy or Peptide Therapy may take several weeks to show noticeable improvements. It’s essential to follow your provider’s post-treatment instructions and allow time for the healing process to occur. Your healthcare provider will give you a more accurate estimate based on your specific treatment plan.
